Roodewal Rest Camp - Kruger National Park
Book Kruger Park Hotels >>
Roodewal is situated approximately 50km by road north of Satara (and 40km from Olifants rest camp), close to the beautiful seasonal Timbavati River. One of the special features of this exclusive bush lodge is a lookout platform resembling a treehouse, constructed around an enormous nyala tree, and hanging suspended over the banks of the Timbavati. The area offers outstanding game viewing, including eland, steenbok, zebra, buffalo, elephant, leopard and lion.
The name Roodewal is taken from the scenically attractive long dolerite dyke in the area, the ridge of which at times suggests a great wall built of massive stone blocks and overgrown with aloes, seringas and euphorbias.
Roodewal accommodates 19 people, and since this is an exclusive lodge, it must be reserved en bloc by a single party at a time.
This accommodation comprises:
• A family cottage with two double bedrooms (one of which has an en suite bathroom), a living room and a second bathroom (with shower)
• Three three-bedded huts, each with two extra mattresses in a loft, a bathroom (with a shower, toilet and washbasin) and a small fridge
• A spacious living room and fully equipped kitchen with gas stove (with oven), fridge, freezer, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery.
Electricity is provided by solar panels, which generate sufficient power only for the lights. Air-conditioning and fans are consequently not provided.
There is no shop, restaurant or filling station, but such facilities are available at Olifants and Satara rest camp.
