The Kalk Bay Theatre - Theatres in Cape Town, South Africa

This 72-seater theatre will provide a delightful evening of dinner and theatre in the intimate surrounds of a converted church, built in 1876, which is heritage protected. Located on 52 Main Road, it is just down the road from Kalk Bay fishing harbour.

The building has been lovingly converted into an intimate theatre with the restaurant on the upper floor. Dinner is a sumptuous three-course meal with choices at main course. Staff treat patrons as friends, and visitors can enjoy dinner, theatre and quality time with friends all under the same roof.

You arrive there at 7pm and will be directed to the restaurant upstairs. The restaurant is open-plan and is designed this way to give you a feel of eating in a warm, family kitchen. The wooden tables and chairs are set around a gallery, allowing customers to look down onto the stage. Of your three-course meal, starters and main course are served before the show, while dessert and coffee is served during the show. After the main meal you will make your way down to the theatre and return to the restaurant for dessert coffee.

Although plays vary widely in genre, the menu changes with each production and is tied loosely to the theme of the show. Vegetarians are also catered for, and even any other catering requirements (due to allergy, etc.) may be arranged beforehand. The restaurant is licensed and corkage a charged.

The 79-seater theatre has seats crafted out of beech wood and modelled around the comfortable Morris chair. The theatre is a thrust stage with the audience on three sides, allowing for a very intimate theatrical experience. Performances are from Tuesdays to Sundays and shows run for four to eight weeks at the venue. There is also an alternate musical program that runs on some Sundays nights.

If you cannot find the Kalk Bay theatre, look out for the bright purple Artvark shop, which is right next door. There is parking available across the road. You can find more information and book online. You can even have the kitchen cater for a special occasion.

A very well run theatre where you will experience an unforgettable night!
